Rihanna shedding pounds to be fit not skinny

Rihanna had jaws dropping with her new buff body in the video for her hit song ‘Umbrella’. However, she insists that the only reason she got into shape, was because she wanted to be “healthy”.

The 19-year old singer told People magazine that her decision to hit the gym was not so much about losing weight, as about being fit and toned.

"It wasn't so much losing weight as being fit and toned and healthy. I just didn't feel great," she told the mag.

And, she insists that working out and eating healthy are also the reason she’s losing weight, and not a deliberate attempt to be skinny.

"Now I'm working out and trying to eat healthy. That's making me lose weight without even thinking about it. I'm not intentionally trying to get skinny," she said.

The singer has started working with a trainer, and is concentrating on getting her arms and legs in shape.

"I work with a trainer. We work on the arms. I don't want manly, muscular arms. We work out my butt because I love my butt. [But] my legs are my main focus. I'm obsessed," she said.

And though she loves foods like bread and rice, that’s just what she’s keeping away from and instead eating lots of carrots, lettuce, cucumbers and egg whites, as well as snacking on fruit all day, and drinking plenty of water.

"I like carbs but at the end of the day, carbs are the enemy," she said.
