Kate Hudson and Owen Wilson, who recently went public with their romance, decided to amicably split shortly before Memorial Day weekend.
The cause of the break-up isn't known.
"They're still friends," People quotes the source as saying.
Owen, 38, and Hudson, 28, reportedly fell in love filming the romantic comedy You, Me and Dupree (2006) and Hudson soon left rocker Chris Robinson - her husband of six years.
They initially played coy about their relationship but gradually opened up displaying affection in public.
The Royal Tenenbaums actor spent Valentine's Day with the Almost Famous actress.
In March the two were photographed holding hands and kissing in Australia.
More recently, on May 10, they were spotted cozying up at the Stone Rose Lounge at the Sofitel Hotel in Los Angeles during the after-party for Luke Wilson's new movie, The Wendell Baker Story.
Hudson is the daughter of Goldie Hawn and 'step-daughter' of Goldie's long-term partner Kurt Russell. She has a three-year-old son, Ryder, with estranged husband Robinson.
