Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal at the Rendition photocall in Rome

Reese and Jake have done a great job of keeping us in the dark about their hot-and-cold romance. The two recently appeared at the photocall of their film Rendition in the Photocall Auditorium at the Porto della Musica, in Rome, Italy.

It’s hard to say whether they were there as a couple, as co-stars promoting their film, or as both.

If the Reese-Jake affair has cooled its’ heels, it could be because Witherspoon had her marriage dissolved as of October 5th. Technically speaking, she and Ryan are free to remarry other people if they so choose.

Whatever the state of her love life these days, Reese looked smashing as usual for the photocall, wearing a short-sleeved gray number with black stockings and heels. The way she posed with Jake looked pretty awkward, maybe because they just broke up. And in spite of that, her personality shined through.

Rendition is about an American wife, Isabella El-Ibrahimi, married to an engineer of Egyptian descent, played by Witherspoon. Her husband mysteriously vanishes on a plane flight headed for Washington from South Africa. The film also stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard.

It is significant not only for its’ dramatic nature but the fact that it is Witherspoon’s first film appearance post-Oscar. While the statuette doesn’t always favor relationships in Hollywood, it definitely proves the worth of stars, Witherspoon being no exception! She’s certainly walking the line back, from a failed union to a booming career in Tinseltown.
