Britney Spears booked for hit and run

Troubled pop princess Britney Spears turned herself in to a Los Angeles jail Monday night to facilitate a procedural arrest ordered by a Los Angeles court October 9 after charges were filed against her September 21 for a hit and run and driving without a license.

The misdemeanor charges stem from an August 6 parking lot incident and each carry a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

The star walked into L.A.'s Van Nuys Valley jail at 9.25pm last night accompanied by pal Sam Lufti and her lawyer J. Michael Flanagan, where she was arrested by cops.

Wearing a black mini dress, black leather jacket and silver chains around her neck, the star was kept in a holding facility where she was photographed and fingerprinted.

"She was cooperative during the arrest and was not handcuffed," said LAPD officer Mike Lopez.
"She went into the Van Nuys jail to turn herself in for a court ordered booking, which is normal practice for any misdemeanor. She was in for 20 to 25 minutes, fingerprinted and photographed and then she was released after completing the necessary paperwork."

Britney will be arraigned on Oct. 25.

One hour before her surrender Britney pulled up at a gas station in her black Audi wearing a red wig. While the car was being refueled she swapped spit with her Yorkshire terrier London.
