David Beckham Makes Big Apple Debut

David Beckham made his Big Apple debut on Saturday (August 18), drawing a Major League Soccer record crowd of 66,237 to the match at Giants Stadium.

In a game full of excitement and scoring, Beckham felt that it was a successful enterprise in almost every respect. The sad part, his team ended up losing.

The former team England captain surprised everyone by playing the entire game. This happened to be the first time he’s done so since making his $250m trans-Atlantic switch to MLS two months ago.

And the injured left ankle which has led Becks to sit out multiple games seems to be holding up well. He’s even optimistic that he’ll be ready for action on Wednesday for a friendly with England against Germany.

“My ankle took a pounding, obviously, and it’s more swollen now than it was before the game but I’m sure it will be fine for the game on Wednesday,” David told press.

Enjoy the pictures of David leaving LA, arriving in NYC, and attending a Big Apple press conference (August 16-17).
