Eva Mendes Calvin Klein’s Commercial is Too Steamy For US TV

She’s parlaying her big-screen sex appeal into a lucrative deal as the spokesmodel for Calvin Klein’s newest fragrance Secret Obsession. But Eva Mendes’ new commercial has been branded as too racy for television here in the States.

And it’s not hard to see why most domestic television stations are refusing to air the spot. After all, it contains a kinda-sorta nipple shot as the “We Own the Night” actress writhes around on an unmade bed while whispering seductively.

Regardless of the controversy, Calvin Klein’s president and CEO Tom Murry stands firm behind the campaign. “We believe the commercial is exceptional and hits the mark for Secret Obsession. We are anticipating a very successful global launch.”

Echoing his sentiments, Vice President of American Fragrances at Coty Prestige Catherine Walsh added that the uproar “just reinforces our belief in the campaign, which has really struck a chord with consumers and in true Calvin Klein fashion, sparks controversy.”

While the most American audiences can hope for is a severely edited version, audiences abroad will be permitted to view the commercial in its entirety.

Eva Mendes unveils naked 'fur' PETA campaign

Sex siren Eva Mendes unveiled her 'I'd Rather Go Naked... Than Wear Fur' campaign for PETA at Corner of Robertson Blvd and Alden, Los Angeles, California. USA, Thursday, December 20.

Mendes, 33, is thrilled to bare all for People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals (PETA) after aggravating the group in 2003 by wearing a fur coat to a movie premiere.

"I was so floored by what they (PETA) said that I said, 'I promise I will never do it again,'" Mendes says.

Mendes also said that she likes the idea of appearing naked on huge billboards in America's leading cities.

"It's very tasteful. It's all in fun. It's got a flirtatious, fun spirit about it. It's not like come hither or anything like that," she told online blogger Marc Malkin.

Eva Mendes joined a growing list of celebrities who have posed naked for PETA to discourage the use of fur because it results in cruelty to animals.

In her interview with PETA, Eva says, "I want people to know that there are options-that killing a poor animal and wearing it isn't cool ... respecting all life forms is cool."

Recounting how she became aware of the cruelty associate with the use of fur Mendes said, "I remember having my first premiere in New York City and being so naïve that I didn't have a coat with me. My stylist sent me a ... fur wrap for the evening, and I ignorantly wore it. PETA then wrote me a beautiful letter commenting on my less-than-educated choice. I was so impressed that I vowed to them and myself to NEVER wear real fur on the red carpet or in my life again."

Mendes, 32, is ranked #7 by Maxim in its 2007 Hot 100 issue and also features on the cover of the November 2007 issue of the magazine.

Eva Mendes loves gardening in the nude

The Cuban beauty is so comfortable in her own skin she even weeds her flowerbeds and prunes her bushes completely naked.

Eva said: "I love being naked. I do everything in the nude, even the gardening!

"We're Cuban, and it's a hot island. Why not go nude?"

The Hitch star was not so comfortable stripping off in front of the cameras for her new movie with Joaquin Phoenix We Own the Night, which opens with Eva's raunchiest ever sex scene.

The 33-year-old Hollywood sex symbol was so nervous, she had to get drunk to shoot the scene.
She said: "It's not a natural thing on camera, so it's always going to be a little awkward.
"It was tough. That morning I was so nervous that the director was like, 'Why don't you put a little vodka in your orange juice?' So I did. It took the edge off.

"It's weird to see myself in bed with Joaquin up on the big screen. I told my mom she has to come 15 minutes late. She wouldn't live through that first scene - she'd have a heart attack. The poor lady would keel over in the movie theatre."
